April 16th - Cold Front and Rain

Last weeks cold front and rain definitely did some damage on the local fishing, however anglers are catching in both salt and fresh! In the salt, anglers are starting to catch schoolies on the western CT beaches and rivers. And for the blackfishing, anglers have been doing well on crabs and Asylum jigs in the New Haven area. Brian Ortell bagged himself a 4 man limit on blackfish on the break walls just yesterday. On the freshwater side, fisherman are doing well on trout at local rivers and ponds. Ryan Kelly reports stellar numbers of trout on powerbait in some of the local trout parks, including a few 5+lb fish. The bass fishing is also heating up with reports of anglers on the bigger lakes bagging 20+lb bags of smallies and largies on jerkbaits and hair jigs. Candlewood remains hot, as well as Zoar and Lillinonoah. Reminder-Black Hall Outfitters is open now and will have our grand opening on May 1st with seminars from charter captains and giveaways!
