April 30th - Catfish Dreaming

Fishing is heating up in both the salt and the fresh! Trout fishing has been consistent with the best action being at the Farmington and Salmon Rivers. The best lures seem to be powerbait, spinners and Rapalas. For bass fishing, the actin has been hot on the bigger lakes as fish start to move up for the spawn. Hot lures are jerkbaits, swimbaits and chatterbaits. For an added bonus, the catfishing in the CT River has been good with reports of big fish and great numbers. In the salt, migratory stripers are moving through, everywhere from the RI border to the Housatonic. Sandworms are the hot bait, but we had reports of guys chunking bunker with success on larger fish. Blackfish season has just ended, and the reports were best from the walls west of Clinton. Best baits were clams and Asian crabs. Both the Old Lyme and the Westbrook shops are open, and we have full inventory of bait and tackle
