February 12th - Dreams of Ice Fishing

It’s been cold and the fishing remains pretty consistent. On the saltwater side, anglers on the Housy are catching stripers on 5” swimbaits and slug-o style lures. Biggest fish are coming by night. For freshwater, most anglers are ice fishing, with the best bite being for pike, bass, perch and crappie. Swedish pimples and shiners remain the best. Keep your leaders light, 4 and 6lb fluorocarbon keep those finicky fish biting. The best lakes stand at Highland and Crystal Lake. And for the trout fisherman, rivers are looking a little slushy and ice flows are taking up most of the river. Egg imitations and nymphs seem to be the best bet, and you can never go wrong with a spinner. Reminder that the Westbrook shop remains closed until further notice, however we can ship, take online orders and do local pick up.
