February 20th - Warm Weather, Warm Thoughts

With warmer weather (hopefully) coming, anglers are finding better success than the past few weeks. Holdover fishing has been steadily getting better, with bigger fish being caught at night with swimbaits. The day-time bite is also pretty good as well, lots of the 15-22” fish being caught. Best bait remains a 5” swimbait on a 1/2 oz jighead. In the freshwater game, the CT DEEP is starting to stock the TMA areas of rivers, with brook, brown, rainbow, and even a few tiger trout! Evan Kamoen reports catching over 100 trout in the past 2 trips he made to the Yantic River. Most fish were caught on spinners and jigs, but some were caught nymphing on the fly. Ice fishing still remains pretty good, anglers are doing well on the coves and bigger lakes with less pressure. Lots of jumbo perch being caught as well as pike and bass. Reminder that the Westbrook shop is closed temporarily, but plans to open soon. If you are looking to purchase anything, you can opt for local pickup, or we can ship it to you.
