This weeks cold front will cause the local lakes, ponds, and tidal rivers to freeze, pushing fisherman to the larger rivers or the hardwater. Ice fishing has been slow locally, but those who travel north are doing well on tip ups and jigs. Bantam lake has been the top producer of pike, but lake Hayward has been killer for bass and perch. The striper bite has been ok on the Housatonic, the cold weather pushed most fisherman away but the diehards are grinding it out from shore and boat. Most fish are coming at night on 5” Blurple Zinger swimbaits and 1/2oz jig heads, fished SLOW on the bottom. And for the trout fisherman, the Farmington has been hot and people fishing egg sacs and nymphs have been doing well. |
